CIS: Eddie Cheever

Up next in our Centennial Interview Series is the winner of the 1998 Indianapolis 500, Eddie Cheever. Eddie walked us through his career at IMS from his rookie year in 1990 through his win as an owner/driver and his later participation as a team owner. He talked about what he learned from having Arie Luyendyk as a teammate, why he had a record of being more successful on race day than in qualifying, the importance of luck versus talent, and what it was like to work for great team owners such as AJ Foyt, John Menard, and Chip Ganassi. Eddie responded to critics who attempt to devalue his win because it took place after the split, commented on his sometimes tumultuous relationships with others in the paddock, and discussed his broadcasting work with ABC. He was also very forthcoming with his memories of the passing of Scott Brayton. Finally, Eddie shared his thoughts on what it means to him to be a champion of the Indianapolis 500.
