The next Indianapolis 500 champion to be featured in our Centennial Interview Series is the winner of the 2003 event, Gil de Ferran. Gil discussed with us the differences between Indianapolis in his rookie year in 1995 and his return in 2001-2003. He talked about the honor of driving a car in Pennzoil colors for Jim Hall, his relationship with Helio Castroneves, and what it feels like to drive at the limit at Indianapolis versus other fast oval tracks. Gil offered his feelings about retiring from driving IndyCars in the same year as he won The Greatest Spectacle in Racing and about whether his perception of the race changed when he returned to Indianapolis as a team owner. He then gave his thoughts on why so many Brazilians have been attracted to 16th and Georgetown in the past two decades before sharing what being a champion of the 500 means to him.
