Andretti aims to keep Hinchcliffe for 2014

Michael Andretti’s ideal situation for 2014 would be to have James Hinchcliffe in one of his cars.

“He wants to be here, and we want to keep him,” Andretti said.

Hinchcliffe’s contract with GoDaddy and Andretti Autosport expires at the end of this year, and he became free to negotiate with other teams as of the middle of August.

Andretti also indicated that the interest he’s shown in orchestrating Juan Pablo Montoya’s return to open-wheel racing – Montoya is confirmed to be departing NASCAR’s Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and possibly the Sprint Cup series altogether before 2014 — will not affect the outcome of contract negotiations with Hinchcliffe.

Andretti said that the team is a couple of weeks from being able to report on an official decision.
