MFW podcast episode 61
More Front Wing podcasts, Podcasts — By More Front Wing Staff on March 21, 2012 9:41 amThe most agonizing off-season wait in recent memory has finally come to an end, which means we’re back and ready to kick off our 2012 More Front Wing podcast season!
This time around, Steph and Paul are pleased to welcome the Online Editor for RACER Magazine and RACER.com, Tony DiZinno. The trio cover all the hot-button topics leading into this weekend’s season opener, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. They discuss how the development process has gone with the DW12, how the return of engine competition will turn the IZOD IndyCar Series on its head, and how the changes in Race Control will affect what fans watch for each weekend. They also examine each new driver and team combination to offer their predictions for who’s hot and who’s not, answer listener questions, and make their picks for the Rookie of the Year, the Indianapolis 500 winner, the winners of the Foyt and Andretti Trophies and the Series championship, and the driver who will take the win this weekend in St. Pete.

Good show guys. I’m excited for this season!
Good point that F1 fans in North America probably already watch IndyCar. I think some may underestimate the importance of the jump in attention Rubens may bring internationally. I’m telling you, F1-specific fans who never gave IndyCar a look – especially after Las Vegas – are seriously paying attention right now. It may only be F1 die-hards but they are there to be tapped into. IndyCar desperately needs good PR internationally, although at least in the UK it gets higher ratings than does NASCAR for whatever that may be worth. Agreed that he’ll be at his most competitive on the natural terrain courses.
50 million ‘impressions’. What are impressions? Can’t be unique users, surely.
I like Conway, great street course driver. I always liked Sato too but he never changes, he’ll always be fast but a crasher sadly. 🙂
I wonder if the Lotus competitors will be as far behind as people suggest they may be. People are talking about a second or two as if it is 10 seconds.
Picks!
ROY: Pagenaud.
Real ROY (actual real rookie with no lengthy top level o/w or sportscar experience): Newgarden
Indy: Helio, and I’ve got a feeling he could be back on form for the rest of the year too. I’d absolutely love it if it was TK.
Foyt trophy: Franchitti.
Andretti trophy: Power.
Championship: Power. Just.
St Pete: Nooo idea! So open, so unpredictable. Hell St Pete is unpredictable in any year anyway! I want it to be Rubens. I think it’ll be RHR.
Great to see your thoughts, Pat, and especially your picks!
We’d love to see some other listeners leave their picks here as well. Who do you like for each of the categories we discussed?
Well you can’t make picks in the show and leave a comments box just sitting there. 🙂 Everyone should leave picks here, you could come back and compare notes in a post-season show!
Mind you I keep changing my St Pete pick every time I look at it.
