Name: Ryan Hauptstueck

Team: Dreyer & Reinbold Racing

Position: Bodywork & Wings

Weekday duties: Responsible for building, fabricating, repairing, and maintaining all bodywork for a two-car, three-car, and for the month of May a four-car team.

Race weekend duties: I change the inside rear tire for Justin Wilson’s #22 Z-Line Designs car.

Total years in racing: 3

Years with current team: 3

Previous teams you’ve worked with: None.

How you got started in racing: In racing, it’s often knowing someone who knows someone. In my case, I have a very good friend who has been in the business a long time and was working for the team. He helped me get my foot in the door for an interview. I started in an entry-level position helping in the carbon department.

Favorite part of job: Race day, for sure. It’s why we put in the long hours and do what we do. There’s nothing better.

Most difficult part of job: I would have to say the long hours and the time spent away on the road. Unfortunately, our season is during most of our family and friends’ summer breaks, holidays, and vacations, so me missing out is a common theme among my family and friends.

Career highlight in racing: So far, it has been finishing second with Justin in both Long Beach and St. Pete. I’m still looking forward to my first win! I must say, though, that every Indianapolis 500 race day is a highlight with me. We put so much time and effort toward that one single race. When we’re finally pushing that car to the grid, it’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

Favorite way to spend an off-weekend: Spending time with family and friends, watching football, playing golf, and simply a bit of relaxation.
