Points leader Castroneves unhurt after crash in Brazilian stock car race
IndyCar, IndyCar News/Releases — By Steph Wallcraft on August 9, 2013 2:41 pmHelio Castroneves, the current championship points leader in the IZOD IndyCar Series, is unhurt after a single-car crash earlier today that destroyed the Stock Car Brasil machine he was piloting at a street course in Ribeirão Preto in the state of São Paulo.
Castroneves lost the brakes in his #34 Shell Racing Chevrolet going into a turn and made a hard impact against an outside wall. He was assisted with leaving the car and was taken to the track’s medical center as a matter of routine procedure. He is expected to participate in the race on Sunday but is awaiting official clearance from medical officials.
