Helio Castroneves, the current championship points leader in the IZOD IndyCar Series, is unhurt after a single-car crash earlier today that destroyed the Stock Car Brasil machine he was piloting at a street course in Ribeirão Preto in the state of São Paulo.

Castroneves lost the brakes in his #34 Shell Racing Chevrolet going into a turn and made a hard impact against an outside wall. He was assisted with leaving the car and was taken to the track’s medical center as a matter of routine procedure. He is expected to participate in the race on Sunday but is awaiting official clearance from medical officials.

Video footage of the incident can be accessed below.
