The IZOD IndyCar Series announced its mostly final schedule for the 2011 season today at the Milwaukee Mile. Highlights include a return to the Milwaukee Mile, new races at New Hampshire and Baltimore, and the 95th Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2011.

The first hints that what we thought we knew of the 2011 schedule was going off the rails came while chatting with Randy Bernard on the Mid-Ohio race weekend. We learned that imminent announcements of 2011 NASCAR dates at that time were having a greater impact on the plans of the IZOD IndyCar Series than expected. With many of those announcements having now taken place, things appear to be back on track.

Thoughts on the condensed May 2010 schedule

Much has been made over the past 24 hours regarding the condensing of the schedule for next year’s Indianapolis 500. The gist of the changes are that opening day gets pushed back one full week and the handful of dark-days at the Speedway are now eliminated.

Terry Angstadt addresses media at Chicagoland

Following the Indy Lights qualifying this afternoon, news broke that an IndyCar owners’ meeting was being held at Chicagoland Speedway to address the future of the IndyCar Series. After the Indy Lights race, President of the IRL Commercial Division Terry Angstadt stopped by the media center to update reporters on some of the issues raised during that meeting.
