An interlude with a casual fan

Yep — I’m about to base an entire blog post on a 15-minute conversation that I had in an airport. But here’s the thing: it was a great conversation. And it provided quite a bit of insight into the potential fan base that us hardcore types don’t necessarily encounter every day.

St. Pete: Preview

As I put the finishing touches on this post, I’m sitting in Buffalo Niagara International Airport waiting for the first of my flights for the day. My ultimate destination is, of course, St. Petersburg and the weekend of racing being headlined by the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Conquest adds second car to 2010 IndyCar Lineup

Conquest Racing announced today that it will field a second car during the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series, starting at the April 11th Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park, for 24-year old Belgian driver Bertrand Baguette.

Do you have any Buffalo sauce for that crow?

It is with a sense of honor that I request a bit of Buffalo sauce for the crow that Steph will be making me eat until the IZOD IndyCar Series fires up again in St. Petersburg, Florida, in just under two weeks.

Sao Paulo delivers on promises of greatness

Could we have asked for a better season opener? Yesterday’s track issues were sorted out perfectly (with thanks due to Tony Cotman and the team at NZR Consulting), and the IZOD IndyCar Series responded by offering up drama in spades — albeit with a bit of help from Mother Nature.

In defense of Sao Paulo

Swift reveals new 2012 design

It made its first appearance in the chassis survey that went to Downforce members yesterday, but more detailed images have emerged today of Swift’s latest design proposal, labeled as car #50.

BAT Project releases new images

The fifth contender to become the next chassis manufacturer for the IZOD IndyCar Series has released images of its new car. The BAT Project, led by engineers Bruce Ashmore, Alan Mertens, and Tim Wardrop, put out a car similar to what we’ve seen so far but with a few distinct features.

It’s time to revise our definition of ride-buying

As the IZOD IndyCar Series takes to the track for this week’s test, contracts are being finalized and this season’s field is beginning to take form. And now, more than ever, the cries of desperation are rising from the stands: where are all the American drivers?

The BAT Project — enter the fifth contender

Just when we thought we were looking at all available options for the 2012 iteration of an IndyCar, Racecar Engineering reports that another group is about to enter the ring.

Panther Racing’s John Barnes discusses the DeltaWing proposal

2012 that was the topic of conversation when Panther Racing co-owner John Barnes spoke with Planet-IRL recently.

Musings on the Daytona 500 from an IndyCar point of view

If one is to provide a well-rounded position on IndyCar’s place in the world of motorsport, it’s necessary to sample the other products on offer from time to time. It was in that spirit that I sat down to watch the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Wait a minute — or was that the Daytona 510? Or 520? Sorry. I lost track.
