INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, July 10, 2012) – INDYCAR, the sanctioning body of the IZOD IndyCar Series, announced today a penalty following post-race technical inspection July 8 of the Honda Indy Toronto.
The No. 14 entry of A.J. Foyt Enterprises driven by Mike Conway has been fined $15,000 and penalized 10 entrant points for not complying with Rule 14.7.2.
14.7.2 Fuel System (Updated March 15, 2012 via Bulletin)
The maximum capacity of the fuel cell shall be 18.5 U.S. Gallons.
“We felt the discrepancy in the size of the fuel tank was enough that it potentially could have provided a track position advantage and the penalty is reflective of that,” said Will Phillips, vice president of technology, INDYCAR.
The member may contest the imposition of the penalty pursuant to the procedures and timelines detailed in the protest and appeal procedures of the IZOD IndyCar Series Rulebook.
